This I Believe....Freewriting

1.       I believe that my mother and father were right on most everything they said.

This is one of my I believe states that I made during my 10 minute exercise. It struck me the most, because it holds the most truth of all. I did give my mother a real run for her money as I was growing up. From the time I was about 13, until I was 19, I just thought everything she said or did was wrong and loaded against me. Oh, don’t get me wrong, there were times when we got along ok, but there were many more time when we did not. Now, my father was another matter. We got along good, I guess that just boys. He was gone a lot working offshore in the oil industry, so when he was home, it was great. My mother just did not want to let go. I didn’t understand this at the time, and I did everything in my power to cause her trouble. Now that I look back, I really don’t know why I did these things. It took a conscious effort to do that. Before my mother passed away in 1986, I was 21 years old, had been working in the oilfield for a few years, and had grown up a bit. My mother and I had a chance one night to talk about these things, and I so glad we did. We got a lot out on the table, and were able to bring good closure to everything. Yes, I did apologize for most all of my actions, and she did as well for hanging on. It’s a good thing; she passed away unexpectedly 2 months later. It’s funny how things work sometimes. She was right about most everything. How do I know this, I have 5 kids of my own!

Jung Typology Test™ type ENFJ

Taking this test has not really given me any surprises that I didn't already know. (in my heart!) It has reinforced my thought about who I really am.I really do think it is pretty accurate in its definition of who I am on a daily basis. Just one look at the description told me most everything about myself.
You are:
  • slightly expressed extrovert
  • moderately expressed intuitive personality
  • distinctively expressed feeling personality
  • moderately expressed judging personality

I have been this way all my life,(45 years) and will continue to have these same feelings always. it is what makes me who I am. I am always concerned of others, what everyone to get along as much as possible, and will take control of a situation to make things right. I am sure this is reflected in anything that I have ever written, and will write. For me, making things right is what I am all about as a person, a father, and a husband. As I learn more about how to write, I am sure this will be reflected in my papers. Sometimes in my life, I have been beaten down because of these traits that I have, but I always get up, dust myself off, and continue on marching forward! I see the good in all. Even when there is all indicators pointing to bad, deep in there somewhere is good. I want my writings to be an accurate reflection of who I am. this is what I hope to take from this class more than anything.
